About Me
Hello! My name is Cassie Lathrope, and I have a passion for storytelling, uncovering the truth, and sharing different perspectives in creative, compelling ways. I am from Trumbull, CT where I was born and raised but currently live in Colchester, VT as I pursue my education.
Academically, I am a Media, Journalism, and Digital Arts student at St. Michael’s College with aspirations of pursuing a career in journalism. I have taken an assortment of classes in my four years here providing me with a variety of skills and interests including photography basics, knowledge of AP style, and multiple Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Indesign, Xd, Illustrator, and Premiere. I have worked on The Defender, our school newspaper, as the Arts and Culture Editor and now the Executive Editor for two years which has grown my leadership and journalistic expertise.
Outside of class, I can be found on campus in various roles. I hold two leadership positions on our Women’s Rugby team as Co-Captain and Social Chair. I joined the team three years ago during my freshman year with no prior experience and fell in love with the sport. I am a Core Team Leader for a volunteer program on campus known as Middle School Mentors where I work directly with a group of middle school-aged girls.
I am also a writer in the Marketing and Communications Department at Saint Michael’s which has provided me the opportunity to interact and write stories about alumni success stories, highlight research opportunities and student interests. As of April 2025 I was elected as the Student Government Association President where I now oversee a board of nine secretaries. My goal is president is to ensure all student voices are heard and properly communicated to faculty and staff.
I have a strong work ethic, excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as a dedication to high standards of quality work. I am eager to step foot into the world of professional journalism to enrich people's lives by educating, inspiring, and entertaining
